Clear Out Your Space Before Moving Day
Posted on 14/12/2023
Moving day can be a stressful time - especially when you're packing up and trying to clean out an entire house or apartment. Not only do you have to figure out what to pack and how to transport it, but you also need to take the time to clear out your space before moving day. Cleaning and decluttering isn't always fun, but it's essential for any move. Here's a few tips on how to start clearing out your space before moving day.
1. Take Stock of What You Have
Before packing up all of your belongings, take a look around and assess what you have. Do you really need all of those books and decorations? Think critically about what you want to keep and what items can be donated or sold. This is the perfect time to get rid of anything that is broken or unused. It will save a lot of effort when it comes time to pack up and move everything out. Plus, going through what you own is a great way to make sure nothing important gets lost in the move.
2. Create Three Different Piles
Now that you know what your keeping, create three different piles; one for items you'll be donating, another for items that are being sold, and finally a pile for motion garbage/recycling. Label each pile clearly so that it's easy to distinguish what goes where. It also helps if everything is sorted by room so that everything from the same room stays together throughout the process.
3. Clean Out Each Room
Next step is cleaning out each room - this includes cleaning furniture, surfaces, windows, carpets, shelves, etc. During this task make sure to check all the drawers, closets and cabinets for anything that could get forgotten in the move like old documents or paper work which should either be shredded or put in a secure place until after the move. Don't forget any nooks and crannies as well; dust under furniture, behind decorations and up high on walls and ceilings are common spots where dirt accumulates quickly and often forgotten during moves!
4. Organize Your Belongings
Now that everything is clean it's important to organize your belongings so they can be easily packed up once move-out time comes around; try categorizing things by size or type (clothing, kitchen items, board games). Place these categories into different boxes as you go along so they will be easy to grab when it comes time to load them onto the truck/trailer! Also remember: if any items require special packing or wrapping like electronics or glassware make sure those are taken care of first!
5. Set Up Donation & Selling Stations
Putting aside donations is an important part of clearing out your space before moving day; remember those three piles we made before? Now we have a place set up where people can come pick up donated items (or we can donate them ourselves) without cluttering our home any more than necessary! Setting up selling stations will also give us an opportunity to make some extra cash before tackling the mountains of bills associated with moving day expenses -- win-win!
6. Hire Professional Movers
Finally, don't feel like you have to take on all the work yourself - hire professional movers if needed! They will properly box up fragile items like TVs & computers while also taking care of furniture disassembly/assembly if necessary (and saving us tons of time!). With professional movers hired we know our item will arrive safely at their destination with everything intact - no need to worry anymore! Just make sure they are certified pros since they will be handling valuable goods & personal possessions- never compromise quality here!
Moving day doesn't have to be stressful; by following these steps and taking the time needed to clear out your space before moving day you can rest easy knowing that all of your valuables will arrive safely at their new home! Good luck with your move!
